Stay motivated with a test at every level

Each numbered level ends in a skills test. Work through the list, tick off what you can do cleanly, and move up when you are ready. It turns practice at home into clear goals and makes your progress easy to see from week to week.

Bonus skills beyond the six levels

Once the levels feel comfortable there is more to explore: speed stepping, crossing and backwards variations, triple unders, power moves, rope wraps and throws. A final set shows how to link skills into combos, the building blocks of a full routine.

Expert instruction, whenever you want it

The course is taught by jump roper Megan Friesth, who has 16 years of experience teaching the sport. Every skill is demonstrated on video with on-screen pointers, so you get a coach’s eye on your technique without booking a class or travelling to a gym.

Because it is on demand, you can practise at seven in the morning or ten at night, repeat a lesson as often as you like, and go at exactly the pace that suits you.

Made for learning at home, and handy for PE teachers

Follow it alone, with your kids, or put the demos on a screen and teach a whole jump rope unit without having to jump yourself.

Set up at home and plan your week

What you need is simple. The weekly rhythm is our own suggestion for beginners, not part of the course. Adjust it to your fitness and stop if anything hurts.

  • A rope sized to you

Lesson one shows how to size and adjust it.

  • Clear space and headroom

A garage, patio or driveway works well.

  • Cushioned trainers

Easier on calves than socks or bare feet.

  • A forgiving floor

Wood or rubber mat; avoid deep carpet.

  • Any screen

Phone, tablet or laptop with a browser.

Questions before you enrol

Is it suitable if I have never skipped before?

Yes. The course starts before you even jump, with rope types, sizing and adjusting, then builds from a basic bounce. You move up a level when you can pass its skills test.

How long do I have access?

According to the course page, access lasts one year from the date of purchase. After that you would need to buy again to keep watching.

What does it cost?

At the time of writing the web version was listed at $9.99. Prices can change, so check the current price on the course page before you buy.

Which devices does it work on?

The web version runs in a browser on any phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection. You can sign in on different devices, but only watch on one at a time.

Does buying the web version include the iPhone app?

No. The iOS app is sold separately through the App Store. The web course linked from this site is its own purchase.

How much space and ceiling height do I need?

Enough room for the rope to swing freely around you without hitting furniture, and enough headroom that it clears the ceiling at the top of each turn. If indoors feels tight, a patio, garage or driveway works well.

Can I try lessons before paying?

The course page lists a number of lessons as free previews, including most of Getting Started and the first lesson of each level, so you can see the teaching style first.

Can I buy it for a class or several students?

The course page says schools with iOS devices can use the App Store version, and others should contact Skipping Skills directly to get set up for multiple students.

Is jump rope safe for me?

Skipping is high-impact for the calves, ankles and knees. Build up gradually, rest between hard days, and check with a doctor first if you have joint, heart or other health concerns.

Your rope is waiting. Start with lesson one.

Size your rope, learn the bounce properly and follow a clear path to your first tricks, at home and at your own pace.
